Tenpay Review – An Honest Guide

April 6, 2022

Tenpay was created by Tencent, the Chinese telecommunications giant that also diversified into creating payment solutions through computers and mobile phones. Many categorized Tenpay as an e-wallet that you can load up using your debit or credit card. Users can course payment through Tenpay’s platform. It is compatible with major local and international banks.

The company’s payment platform doesn’t really ask about what the payments are for. Merchants can receive these payments without needing to provide descriptions. Consumers can load up their accounts on their end and use the funds to pay for their purchases via Tenpay.

What’s best about Tenpay is it also has the Tenpay Express Checkout. Consumers can pay for their purchases using only a username and password. Over 200,000 e-commerce sites accept Tenpay.

Tenpay Merchant Services

  • Credit Card Processing

Tenpay isn’t exactly a credit card processor, but it accepts payments made through funds withdrawn from the credit card. Since it’s an e-wallet, consumers need to top their accounts with money coming from either their debit or credit cards. Tenpay accepts both. Indirectly, when merchants offer Tenpay to their consumers, they’re also advertising their ability to accept credit card payments.

  • High-risk Payment Processing

The good thing about Tenpay is it doesn’t need to know what products the merchants are selling. This means that high-risk industries such as those in debt collection, cryptocurrency, adult entertainment, multi-level marketing, and others can use it. Tenpay promises secure connections, so you don’t have to worry about your information.

  • Fraud Prevention

Tenpay has an express checkout feature. This means that the consumers only need to enter their username and password into the e-wallet to pay for purchases. The debit or credit card linked to the account will be charged, but the consumers do not need to enter their credit card information every time. This also means they do not have to bring their physical cards anymore.

Tenpay BBB Rating

Tenpay is not accredited and rated by the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The reason is that BBB only covers businesses in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. While it can give ratings based on customer reviews and complaints, it should not be the sole source of information about payment processors. Merchants will do well not relying on BBB alone.

Lawsuits

State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) Shenzhen branch fined Tenpay $436,000 in November 2021 for misconduct. China’s foreign exchange regulator said Tenpay conducted forex business beyond the scope of its registration. The regulator also made several warnings against the company about violations and illegal gains.

In a statement, Tenpay said that it created an improvement plan and is ready to rectify its mistakes. It added that it will comply with the regulator’s orders and that it will strengthen its compliance with the rules.

In 2018, Tenpay was also fined for violating cross-border payment rules. Reports said it failed to submit risk reports to authorities.

Tenpay Customer Reviews

Since Tenpay is an old payment platform on Tencent’s QQ, the older social platform based on personal computers, there aren’t many current reviews about it. Merchants that used Tenpay gave it a five-star rating. However, since Tencent has since established WeChat Pay as its payment platform, Tenpay has been relegated to a brand for the infrastructure that powers WeChat Pay.

Conclusion

Tenpay is almost synonymous with WeChat Pay, though the former exists in the less-significant QQ-based e-wallet. The company got into many penalties and violations for providing payment services for false transactions. Some of the transactions turned out to be illegal. Merchants should proceed with caution if they want to use Tenpay as the payment processor.
